With the All-Star Game approaching, both the AL and NL rosters are plugging in replacements for players who will not be able to take part in the game. The latest NL addition is a slap in the face to veteran SF Giants reliever Tyler Rogers.
It was announced that Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski, a 23-year-old who has five games under his belt in his big league career, will be replacing Chicago Cubs pitcher Matthew Boyd on the National League roster.
SF Giants reliever Tyler Rogers snubbed from All-Star Game for now
Misiorowski has been electric in his young big league career. He has a fastball that easily surpasses 100 miles per hour on the radar gun, and he has a 2.81 ERA in 25 and 2/3 innings pitched. Yet, five appearances is the fewest ever for a player to make an All-Star Game with the second-fewest being Paul Skenes with 11 last season.
This sort of decision is a slap in the face to someone like Tyler Rogers. The veteran pitcher has been one of the most reliable relievers in baseball since 2021 and he currently has a 1.62 ERA on the year in 46 appearances and 44 and 1/3 innings pitched.
Rogers already was a snub from the NL roster when it was first announced. While the Giants at least got some representation from their bullpen with Randy RodrÃguez making the team, Rogers was more than deserving with the season he is putting together. The Giants have been campaigning for Rogers to take Robbie Ray's place on the roster since Ray will be unable to pitch in the game, but it remains to be seen who will take his place.
It would be a shame if Rogers is excluded but not a huge shock. It seems that Rogers consistently flies under the radar even though he has established himself as one of the best eighth-inning arms in all of baseball.
The All-Star Game can be an opportunity to showcase exciting young talents by Misiorowski, but it should also serve as an opportunity to reward players like Rogers who may be overlooked but are ultimately deserving of the honor.
Let's hope Rogers can take the place of someone on the NL team otherwise this snub will really be something to complain about.
