Jackson Flora flashes a swagger that SF Giants desperately need in second pro outing

This has been a good year for SF Giants fans who like to keep tabs on the minor leagues. Basically all of the minor league affiliates have performed really well and the Single-A San Jose Giants are currently in the playoffs.

They gave the ball to Jackson Flora, the team’s first-round draft pick in the 2026 MLB Draft, and he pitched even better than he did in his pro debut which was already impressive. Not only that, but he flashed a swagger that would be a welcome sight on the big league Giants someday.

Flora pitched two innings and struck out four batters while walking two. The command may still need a little more work but the stuff is clearly working against Single-A competition. 

He struck out the side in the second and while walking off the mound tipped his cap because he knew he had struck out the “beer batter” meaning he had secured discounted beer for fans.

That sort of showmanship and swagger would certainly be welcome on the Giants. It’s been a long time since they’ve had a starting pitcher with some flair. Perhaps Johnny Cueto was the last guy whose theatrics, and shimmies, on the mound really made for some quality entertainment.

Of course, the swagger only works if it’s backed up by good results. So far, so good for Flora but he obviously has a long way to go until he is tipping his cap to fans in San Francisco.

It’s easy to dream about, though. If Flora can develop into a solid rotation arm for the Giants that would be a really huge development. We know the team’s reticence to spend on starters and not since Logan Webb have they had a homegrown starter become a fixture in the rotation. They need Flora to be that guy.

That may be a lot of pressure especially for a kid who grew up a Giants fan in the Bay Area, but if the early swagger is any indication he is not going to shrink from those expectations and could end up being a great pick if he pans out the way the Giants hope he will.

For now though he just has to continue to get better and hopefully dominate at each minor league level. If his stuff can play in San Jose all the way up through Sacramento then he will prove that he is ready for the Show which could come sooner rather than later.
