The SF Giants are 23-37 on the season. They just got smoked 16-2 by the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday night in yet another game where the only interesting thing for fans to think about was which position player would take the mound for the team once the game got out of hand.
Christian Koss is still down in Triple-A so that honor fell to recently called up Buddy Kennedy on Monday night. An uninitiated Giants fan might think Monday was rock bottom, but anyone who has watched this team in 2026 knows that the hole they are currently in can get so much deeper.
The Giants have the toughest strength of schedule of any MLB team in the month of June. Their scheduled opponents for June had a combined winning percentage of .562 entering the month so it really isn’t hard to imagine the Giants being 20 games under .500 or worse by the end of June.
Giants' already ugly season could get even worse in June
The Brewers are obviously a vastly superior team, doing way better than the Giants despite the fact that they have fewer resources. They have whatever monkey’s paw that unlocked Kyle Harrison’s true potential while the Giants still seem to be looking for the one that they used to win those three World Series titles over a decade ago.
Then the Giants will take on the Chicago Cubs who are also reeling, but keep in mind the Giants only beat the Colorado Rockies once over the weekend so they shouldn’t exactly be licking their chops going into Chicago.
San Francisco will also face the Washington Nationals, Atlanta Braves, Miami Marlins, Athletics, and Arizona Diamondbacks the rest of June. The Braves are 20 games over .500 so they are a big reason why the Giants have the toughest strength of schedule, but it would still be mildly surprising if they won two series this month.
It seems like Buster Posey and the front office is starting to recognize the sad state of affairs which is why they are calling up the kids. Jonah Cox’s promotion was followed shortly by reliever Wilkin Ramos and Buddy Kennedy. They may as well get something out of this season by playing some of their younger prospects and getting them valuable experience.
Playing the kids is probably not going to lead to more wins though so it is not out of the question that the Giants could lose 90 to 100 games this season, or perhaps even more. If they do, there will have to be some big changes but through it all whenever it seems like the team has hit a new low, remember that the earth’s crust is very deep and a new rock bottom can be discovered every day.
