One could forgive SF Giants fans for being a little fed up with the team right now. They are eight games under .500 and even when they show some signs of life by winning a couple of games against the Los Angeles Dodgers, they still aren’t able to win the series as they dropped the last two games to split the series.
It’s still only May so the team isn’t completely done for, but at some point they are going to have to get on a hot streak or have a hot month if they want to get close to or above .500 but it’s not clear if this team has the ability to do that.
If you can’t stand the big league team, at least the minor league affiliates are giving some cause for hope. Win-loss totals in the minors don’t always mean a ton but it’s never a bad thing if prospects get used to the taste of winning and some key prospects have played really well.
Giants' minor league affiliates are at least doing well
Starting in the Arizona Complex League, the Giants recently destroyed the Dodgers’ ACL team 29-2. Josuar Gonzalez and Luis Hernández are the two key prospects for the Giants in the ACL and they have been completely on fire. While they probably won’t debut with the Giants this decade, it’s still promising.
The Low-A San Jose Giants have been solid as they have a record of 20-16. Prospects Jhonny Level and Cam Maldonado have impressed and Level is a top-five prospect in the organization so he could definitely make an impact with the Giants someday.
The High-A Eugene Emeralds have a very impressive record of 27-9 on the year. 2025 first-round pick Gavin Kilen is hitting .303 for the Emeralds and promising outfielder Dakota Jordan has six home runs for the club. Pitcher Jacob Bresnahan has also impressed with a 3.09 ERA.
The Double-A Richmond Flying Squirrels are also ablaze with a record of 27-8. Outfielders Bo Davidson and Jonah Cox are on fire so they could potentially be contributors in just a couple of years.
Even the Sacramento River Cats are doing well with a record of 22-18. Buddy Kennedy and Victor Bericoto have impressed on offense so maybe one of them could earn a call-up this season if there’s an injury.
Again, minor league records don’t always translate to big league success but it’s important to try to stay positive even if the big league club isn’t doing all that well. If the Giants are going to be good again they are going to need their farm system to produce some solid players and with the way things are going in the minors that seems like a definite possibility.
