The SF Giants have had plenty of injury updates as of late, but by far the dumbest one was learning that outfielder Harrison Bader further injured his foot due to a scooter accident.
He was already dealing with a plantar fasciitis issue that had kept him out since late May, but now it seems unlikely he will return this season especially since he had already suffered a setback prior to the scooter incident.
Giants fans are very familiar with scooter controversies as Hunter Pence’s scooter got stolen back in 2014. Bader’s accident was shockingly not the only scooter accident the organization has been involved with recently.
Down in Triple-A Sacramento, the team’s mascot, Dinger, was riding a scooter around the field and collided with Los Angeles Dodgers minor league outfielder Alek Thomas as he ran out of the dugout.

Giants fans will remember the speedy Thomas from his days with the Arizona Diamondbacks. While he was never a huge offensive threat, he was a superb defender and was a menace when he got on the bases with his speed.
Giants' minor league affiliates keep having strange accidents
This isn’t the only bizarre thing that’s happened with San Francisco’s minor league affiliates as of late. The Double-A Richmond Flying Squirrels had a firework fiasco where fireworks got shot into the crowd. Thankfully no one got hurt.
It’s just been that kind of year for the Giants. The same way Madison Bumgarner crashed his motorbike and hurt his shoulder during the 2017 season it seems like these things have a way of happening during really bad seasons for San Francisco.
Perhaps the only person who should be allowed to ride a scooter on a baseball field is Pence. That’s the send-off the Giants gave him at the end of the 2018 season and it was a lovely way to say goodbye to a Giants legend.
Maybe the Giants can make an exception and on the final day of this season Bader can ride his scooter around the field and instead of being cheered and showered with love fans can roundly boo Bader for having such a bad year and injuring himself in dumb ways off the field since now the team is likely stuck with him for another year.
Or, they can call up Dinger from Triple-A and have him and Lou Seal chase Bader around the field while riding scooters. If “Fan Appreciation Day” means anything to the Giants, they need to give us this as a small consolation for a terrible year.
