With the 2025 season now in the rearview mirror, let's look back and grade every SF Giant's outfielder for their performance in 2025.
Grading every SF Giants outfielder from the 2025 season
Jung-Hoo Lee: B-
Lee did lead the Giants in bWAR with 1.8 on the season, but it was almost all accumulated in April and a few hot weeks in late August and early September. He hit a rough patch in the middle of the year, but did manage to salvage a 110 OPS+ out of his 2025 campaign. The Giants believe that this season will be a springboard for the speedy outfielder.
Heliot Ramos: C-
It's too bad Ramos was not able to follow up on his All-Star caliber first half of the season. He had a .766 OPS pre-All-Star break, but a .674 OPS post-All-Star break. His slugging rates took a big hit in the second half of the season as well. He hit only 14 extra base hits post-break, after hitting 32 pre-break.
Ramos reached 20 home runs for the second straight year, but also struggled on defensively and on the bases. That weighed down his value considerably.
Mike Yastrzemski: C+
Yastrzemski was good enough to be traded to Kansas City, where he actually got better. He posted 1.7 bWAR in the bay, mostly due to his defense, which made up for a league-average 97 OPS+. In Kansas City, he doubled his home runs and posted a 131 OPS+.
Luis Matos: D
In 57 games, Matos posted a .691 OPS and was worth -0.2 bWAR. Essentially, he was a replacement-level player. Matos put together a strong stretch in August, but the Giants did not appear convinced that it was an actual turnaround and optioned him to the minors at the end of the year.
Drew Gilbert: D
The 24-year-old might have a bright future ahead, but in 2025, he struggled after being traded to the Giants from the New York Mets. He had an OPS+ of 70 in 39 games, and while he did showcase some pop, with three home runs and five doubles, it was not enough to redeem himself from a .190 batting average.
Gilbert brought a lot of energy to the team, and played solid defense in the outfield. That could earn him a bench role with the club next year.
Grant McCray: D
In 22 games, McCray hit .091, with a .160 OBP and a .182 SLG. It's honestly crazy he lasted 22 games in a Giants uniform, even considering how little playing time he was actually getting.
