Giants' hilarious Camilo Doval trade steal from Yankees got even funnier this weekend

Looks like a pretty good trade from San Francisco's perspective.

Last season at the trade deadline, the SF Giants moved on from reliever Camilo Doval in a trade with the New York Yankees. The main prospect who came back in the deal for San Francisco was catcher/utility player Jesus Rodriguez and this past weekend showed just how much of a steal the Giants got in that trade.

The Giants obviously seem to be happy with Rodriguez so far. He got a walk-off hit on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Pirates and president of baseball operations Buster Posey feels good enough about Rodriguez and Daniel Susac behind the plate that he was willing to move on from a catcher with two Gold Gloves in Patrick Bailey.

Meanwhile, Doval continued to struggle for New York over the weekend. He came into Saturday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers with the Yankees leading by a run and that lead evaporated by the time he left the game as he allowed two hits and a run to tie the game.

Doval's struggles and Rodriguez's walk-off make Giants look genius for trade with Yankees

Doval's ERA is now an ugly 6.14 on the season in 17 appearances. While he looked to be the best version of himself against the Giants in the opening series of the year, it seems like the struggles he experienced in New York last year have persisted into this season.

San Francisco's bullpen has been far from perfect, but for those wishing the Giants still had Doval especially with recently demoted Ryan Walker blowing saves left and right, it turns out that Doval is just as bad, if not worse, than Walker.

It's too early to say for sure which side won the trade, but the scale definitely seems to be leaning in San Francisco's direction right now. The Giants seem to have a solid hitter in Rodriguez who, while still a little rough around the edges defensively, could be a solid presence in the lineup going forward.

Not only did the Giants get Rodriguez in that trade though, they also got Parks Harber, Trystan Vrieling, and Carlos De La Rosa.

Harber has been something of a revelation as he impressed in spring training and has pretty much just hit no matter what level he's been at. So far this season he's hitting .328/.371/.517 with one home run and six runs batted in at Double-A Richmond.

Vrieling has a 4.00 ERA in six starts for the Richmond Flying Squirrels and De La Rosa is struggling in the ACL but it's early.

Still, as long as Doval keeps on looking like the worst version of himself that he was in San Francisco while Rodriguez keeps on getting hits then the Giants will have absolutely fleeced the Yankees.
