Marco Luciano has been one of the biggest question marks for the SF Giants over the past couple of seasons. Heading into the 2026 season, the Giants are going to have a very big decision on their hands with regards to his future.

Once considered one of the brightest young prospects in the MLB, Luciano spent the entire 2025 season in Triple-A Sacramento after struggling in MLB stints in 2023 and 2024. Still, at 24 years old, it feels like Luciano deserves another chance in the big leagues, and if the Giants are not going to give him one, it might be time to find another team that will.

SF Giants must figure out what to do with Marco Luciano

Luciano is coming off a solid year in Triple-A, which saw him hit 23 home runs in 125 games. He still has the same tools he had when he was a top draft pick and top prospect, so it would not be surprising to see him improve and become a major league contributor. Especially considering the Giants hardly gave him much of an opportunity to blossom into a productive major leaguer. He has played just 41 games in the big leagues between 2023 and 2024, and has just 126 MLB plate appearances.

At some point, the Giants need to give their former top prospect a more extended run in the big leagues. Most major leaguers struggle in their first 40 games; that is to be expected. It would be silly to give up on Luciano after such a small sample size.

Of course, San Francisco might just not have room for Luciano on the roster in 2026. If that is the case, the best course of action might just be to trade Luciano. Surely, there is a team that exists that would be interested in taking a chance on Luciano. Perhaps the Miami Marlins, Athletics, or Colorado Rockies, teams with little depth and lots of opportunities for young players to thrive, would want to give Luciano a chance.

As a fan, it would be fun to see Luciano break out in 2026. It would be a fantastic story to see a kid who struggled early bounce back and find a spot on the team. But if the Giants don't plan on giving him a chance, they should find a trade partner and offload him while he still has any value.
