Farhan Zaidi's fingerprints all over Dodgers nabbing ex-SF Giants first-round pick

It seems like Farhan must have been involved in this one.

As the SF Giants sold at the trade deadline after a disastrous second half, the Los Angeles Dodgers made some moves as well. They traded pitcher Dustin May to the Boston Red Sox, and in exchange they got former Giants first-round pick James Tibbs III.

Tibbs was drafted by San Francisco in the first round of the 2024 MLB Draft. The Florida State product got off to a hot start in the minor leagues this year before cooling off and eventually he was part of the trade that landed Rafael Devers.

In his brief stint in Boston's organization, Tibbs did not hit all that well. In 29 games with Boston's Double-A affiliate, Tibbs slashed .205/.321/.268 with one home run and six runs batted in.

It is obviously a tough adjustment having to join a new organization all the way across the country, but now Tibbs will have to do it all over again as he joins the Dodgers organization.

Tim Kawakami of the San Francisco Standard noted on social media after Tibbs was acquired by Los Angeles that the move seemed like it would have been influenced by Farhan Zaidi who was president of baseball operations for the Giants in 2024 when Tibbs was drafted.

Now, Zaidi finds himself back with the Dodgers organization as a special advisor. This only fueled suspicions that Zaidi was a Dodger plant all along while he was with the Giants, a conspiracy he has had some fun with, but it would not be at all surprising if he told LA's front office that Tibbs might be worth trying to get in a deal for May.

Even though Zaidi is incredibly controversial amongst Giants fans, some deals he made while running the team have been extremely beneficial so he deserves credit for that.

Outside of a trade for a reliever and an outfielder, the trade deadline was uncharacteristically quiet for the Dodgers. It seems like they always make some sort of big splash every year at the deadline, but this year was fairly tame.

They were connected to some big names, but apparently they felt fairly content with where their roster was at.

Nonetheless, it is at the very least a nice subtle troll job by the Dodgers to pick up Tibbs. If Zaidi had anything to do with it, perhaps it is his way of poking a little fun at the Giants as his former employer spirals down the drain of mediocrity.
