SF Giants players, both former and current, have played a big role for Team USA at the World Baseball Classic. Former Giants submariner Tyler Rogers did what he did so many times during his tenure in San Francisco as he bailed out Team USA en route to a victory over the Dominican Republic in the semi-finals of the event.
The long-time Giant joined the event as a reserve and in his first WBC action he wasted no time showing that was a good choice.
Rogers came in with runners on first and second and one out in the fifth inning. Starting pitcher Paul Skenes had left him a tough spot but it only took Rogers two pitches to induce a double play to end the inning, preserving Team USA's precarious 2-1 lead.
That lead ended up holding as the final score although it did not come without controversy thanks to a disputed strike call to end the game. Nonetheless, Team USA will advance to the final on Tuesday which will be played against either Team Venezuela or Team Italy.

It was cool to see Rogers have that moment of glory. While it may have been overshadowed by the call that ended the game, that moment may not have been possible without Rogers coming in and getting the job done.
It was really a perfect situation for him to be used so Team USA manager Mark DeRosa deserves some credit for calling on the submariner in that spot. Rogers is great at inducing ground balls and he threw a perfect sinker on the outside corner which led to a ground ball right to the second baseman just like Doctor DeRosa ordered.
Many casual baseball fans are probably not acquainted with Rogers. While many Giants fans have known how good he is for years, he has not had too many huge moments on the big stage that would grab the attention of non-Giants fans.
Perhaps that will change this year. He signed a big contract with the Toronto Blue Jays so if Toronto makes another playoff run like it did last year then Rogers could have some big playoff moments.
It's great to see both Logan Webb and Rogers absolutely dominate on the big stage in this event. Webb delivered two great starts and Rogers got the team out of a jam so two guys who have been a massive part of Giants baseball this decade are representing their country very well.
