The SF Giants are looking for a new manager, but they are also going to need to think about their roster after figuring out their next skipper. They have a number of players who will be free agents and it is unclear if any will return.
Let's take a look at every Giant set to be a free agent per spotrac.com.
Every SF Giants player set to be a free agent after the MLB playoffs
Wilmer Flores
Giants fans gave Wilmer Flores a standing ovation as he was removed from the team's final regular season game. It was a nice recognition of all the good he did as a Giant over the years and also an acknowledgment that he will almost certainly not be with the team next year as he is a free agent.
Flores put up respectable numbers in 2025, with 16 homers and 71 runs batted in a year after he struggled and battled through injuries.
With Rafael Devers and Bryce Eldridge looking like they will comprise most of the playing time at first base and designated hitter next year, there is not room for Wilmer so he will have to try to get an opportunity with another team in free agency.
Justin Verlander
The 42-year-old Justin Verlander somehow got stronger as the season went on. He certainly did enough to pitch again in 2026, but it is dubious whether that will be with the Giants even though they have an interest in bringing him back.
He had a 3.85 ERA in 29 starts so he will get another contract but he may opt to go somewhere else since the Giants only got him four wins.
Dominic Smith
General manager Zack Minasian has expressed an interest in bringing Dominic Smith back, but with how well he did in 2025 he could probably land a starting gig or at least end up with a team where he would get more playing time than he would with the Giants.
He hit .284 with a .333 OBP and .750 OPS in 204 at-bats and was great defensively at first base. It would be great if he stayed with the Giants but he probably deserves a shot elsewhere.
Max Stassi
The Giants cycled through a few backup catchers in 2025 but one who did not see any playing time was Max Stassi. The Giants may already have their backup catcher of the future, so Stassi may end up somewhere else in 2026.
Tom Murphy
Speaking of backup catchers who did not play at all with the Giants in 2025, Tom Murphy is a free agent. He was signed to a two-year deal with a club option for a third season at $4 million, but given Murphy only played in 13 games in 2024 and none this season as he dealt with injury, and the fact that he basically accused the organization of malpractice, it is safe to assume he will not be back.
Joey Lucchesi
While the Giants may end up remaking their bullpen this offseason, one holdover could be left-handed reliever Joey Lucchesi. He had a 3.76 ERA in 38 appearances and could be a solid option for the team out of the bullpen next season if the Giants bring him back.
