The SF Giants are not in the playoffs, but with the ALCS starting last night between the Blue Jays and Mariners and the NLCS beginning tonight between the Dodgers and Brewers, let's look at the former SF Giants still left standing in the playoffs.
At the outset of the playoffs, we took a look at a number of former Giants who we could potentially see in the postseason. Some former Giants even played a pretty sizable role during the NLDS. That number has been whittled down to just a few so let's take a look at the few familiar faces left.
Every former SF Giants player in the ALCS and NLCS
Blake Snell
Let's get this one out of the way first. Blake Snell was with the Giants in 2024 before opting out of his contract and joining the Dodgers. Unfortunately, he has been good in the playoffs this year with a 1.38 ERA in two starts. He will get the ball in Game 1 tonight against Milwaukee.
Jose Quintana
Obviously, every Giants fan will be cheering for the Brewers against the Dodgers, but the only familiar face on Milwaukee's roster will be Jose Quintana. The veteran lefty pitched in five games for the 2021 Giants so he was not with the team for long, but hopefully he can pitch well against the dreaded Dodgers.
Kevin Gausman
Former Giant Kevin Gausman was a much larger part of the miracle 2021 Giants team and the fact that Farhan Zaidi let him walk after the 2021 season looks worse and worse. He has a 2.38 ERA in two starts this postseason and got the loss in Game 1 of the ALCS last night, but expect him back out there in Game 5 if the series gets that far.
Tyler Heineman
There has been a lot of chatter about former Giants catchers becoming the next manager of the team, but one who can be safely ruled out is Tyler Heineman. He is currently the backup catcher for Toronto and has not seen any action this postseason but maybe he can be an unlikely hero at some point.
Luke Jackson
Luke Jackson was not a great reliever with the Giants, but he has been decent with Seattle and made their ALCS roster. He has pitched one scoreless inning in the playoffs so far but do not expect to see him in too many high leverage spots.
Luis Castillo (honorary mention)
Castillo was once in the Giants organization and was included in the trade for Casey McGehee back in 2014 while he was still a prospect. He has not allowed a run in six innings of work so he has been solid.
No matter which combination of teams makes it to the World Series, it seems there will be at least one player on each team who donned a Giants uniform at some point. Let's just hope Snell and the Dodgers do not end up winning it all.
