SF Giants catcher Eric Haase had a huge game against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday night. He hit two home runs and made some history in the process, but he did raise a few eyebrows with his comments after the game.

“I just think the chemistry in the room now is what we were searching for a lot of the season. You can argue which pieces are to blame for that, but all we know is it’s nice to finally feel that shift of momentum and energy," Haase said.

Eric Haase comments about chemistry lead to speculation

It was at the very least an interesting comment and one can’t help but think about Patrick Bailey who was recently dealt to the Cleveland Guardians. Haase did not bring him up directly but to mention “blame” in his comments was certainly an interesting choice.

Since the Giants traded Bailey on May 9 they are 3-1 and have won three straight games. The two guys who have filled in for him have done quite well. Jesus Rodriguez has a walk-off hit and Haase has the two homers so certainly from an offensive perspective the Giants are in a better place than they were when Bailey was struggling to do anything at the plate.

There haven’t been a ton of rumors or reporting about Bailey being any sort of clubhouse cancer over the years. It’s not like he was A.J. Pierzynski who everyone detested but maybe behind the scenes feelings about Bailey were a bit more mixed.

Andrew Baggarly’s reporting after the Bailey trade certainly suggests that there was more frustration from the front office, specifically president of baseball operations Buster Posey, with regard to Bailey than was publicly known.

Maybe Haase was referring to someone else or something else but all that matters is the Giants are playing better baseball. They just smoked the Dodgers in two straight games and while losing the last two games of the series could completely sap whatever momentum they currently have, they are at least showing a little fight.

No matter what, Bailey is gone and we are likely going to see Daniel Susac and Rodriguez at catcher for the rest of the year although Haase is a nice insurance option to have. He’s not in the lineup on Wednesday night as Rodriguez is back in there but don’t be surprised if Haase still plays a role and contributes for the Giants this year.
