Sunday's game against the Colorado Rockies was a disaster for the SF Giants. It was so bad that Duane Kuiper joined the Murph and Markus Show on KNBR and called it the worst half-inning of baseball he has ever seen.

Of course, Kuiper has been in the game for a long, long time. This includes 12 seasons as a player, and he has spent the better part of the past 40 seasons doing play-by-play work. He has seen a lot of baseball, both good and bad.

Evidently, the worst took place on Sunday afternoon. It was the top of the sixth inning and the Giants held a 7-6 advantage. Sam Hentges started that inning, but was unable to throw any strikes. JT Brubaker replaced him, and it was more of the same. Brubaker also recorded a wild pitch that allowed a Zac Veen to score despite the ball deflecting only a couple of feet away from Drew Cavanaugh.

That play worked out in Veen's favor. It was either an extremely good read of the catcher, or it could have turned out to be a massive mistake given how close the ball ended up to Cavanaugh. This time around, it looked to be a great read by Veen, as he went almost as soon as the ball kicked off the dirt.

SF Giants sloppy play highlights arguably the worst inning of the year

Brubaker departed without recording an out. He allowed two runs on two hits and two walks. Reiver Sanmartin took over and recorded the final out of the inning. By the end of the sixth inning, the Rockies had a 10-7 advantage. They tacked on three more runs to secure the win and clinch a series victory.

That was just one frame of an overall sloppy outing by the Giants. If you can believe it, they actually recorded more hits (11) than the Rockies (9). However, Giants pitchers yielded 10 walks while hitting another batter. They gave the Rockies plenty of free passes, and Rockies hitters took advantage of some of those gifts.

Some wildness is to be expected with Blade Tidwell. That was on display on Sunday, as he issued five walks. However, the bullpen tallied five more walks on top of that. The bullpen has been far too big of a story this season, and this was another example of that. If a reliever cannot throw strikes, then the Giants need to find someone who can.

The Giants have beaten up on the Rockies in recent seasons, but the tide turned this year. They lost the season series, winning only six of 13 games.

Duane Kuiper said that the sixth inning was one of the worst he has seen. He even took it a step further, suggesting that the Giants should offer refunds to the fans in attendance. They will not do that, but that is how bad Sunday's game played out.
