Just a few hours after Rafael Devers was introduced at Oracle Park, he made his SF Giants debut. While he struck out in his first at-bat, he smoked an RBI double in his second at-bat as a Giant to give the team the lead.

Rafael Devers gets Oracle Park rocking with first SF Giants hit
It was a mighty impressive swing of the bat and got Oracle Park rocking. Fans were already on their feet as they gave him a standing ovation for both of his first two at-bats, but Devers got them cheering nice and loud as he drove the ball into the gap. It is his first hit as a Giant and his first run batted in.
At his best, Devers is a premier power slugger. He has had 34 doubles or more in each of the last four seasons and has 27 home runs or more in each of the last four seasons. He brings a lot of power from the left-handed side of the plate and makes the team's lineup as a whole look a heck of a lot better.
It is great to see Devers get a big hit like this in his first game as a Giant. Whenever a player joins a new team, especially after a blockbuster trade, the pressure to perform can be immense. We have seen shortstop Willy Adames press at times this season as he tries to justify the franchise record contract that the Giants gave him during the offseason.
A big hit like the one Devers delivered in the bottom of the third inning will go a long way towards calming his nerves down. Nothing is worse than when the new guy shows up and everyone is expecting him to hit the cover off the ball but he goes 0-for-15 to start.
Devers is most likely going to be in San Francisco for a good long while, so even if he does struggle a bit out of the gates patience is going to be important as he adjusts to a new city and new ballpark.
So far though, he seems to be getting acquainted with Oracle Park and his new surroundings just fine. Let's hope this is just the first of many huge hits from Devers in his SF Giants tenure.
