The Los Angeles Dodgers yet again have a chance to win the World Series. They’re currently up 1-0 in the NLDS over the Atlanta Braves and former SF Giants pitcher Blake Snell is set to take the ball in Game 2. He made some comments ahead of the series that one can’t help but laugh at.

Per Bob Nightengale of USA Today, Snell said the following about the playoffs: “Like, if you want to be a Hall of Famer, if you want to be a legend in the game, I think it all happens in October. The regular season sets you up in a lot of ways, but the postseason is definitely what could cement you.”

Keep in mind, this is coming from a guy who made nine starts this season and 11 starts in 2025. He really only uses the regular season as his spring training and complains that he’s tired when his teammate Yoshinobu Yamamoto literally made 30 starts last season and then pitched on no rest in Game 7 of the World Series to help the Dodgers clinch it.

Meanwhile, Snell pitched okay in the playoffs last year but got lit up in Games 1 and 5 of the World Series. Instead of taking ownership and saying that he stunk, he just chalked it up to bad luck and let the rest of his teammates get him a ring that he barely had to work for.

While I hate the Dodgers with every fiber of my being, I reserve a few of those fibers for guys like Snell and Kyle Tucker. They weren’t drafted by the Dodgers or traded there, they simply chose that they didn’t want to work all that hard so they joined a super team where they could either take most of the regular season off or be really bad during the regular season and it didn’t even matter because the team is so talented it will win 100 games no matter what. When I say the Dodgers are ruining baseball, it’s really guys like that who are ruining baseball.

Blake Snell might be a Hall of Famer someday but it should come with asterisk

Maybe Snell will make the Hall of Fame someday. He does have two Cy Young Awards after all. But I just hope the voters take into account the fact that his rings only came as a result of joining a behemoth and he basically decided to shun the regular season to focus on the playoffs so he can play video games or do whatever else it is he does when he’s on the IL.

Keep in mind he did the same thing in his one year with the Giants. He was dominant in the second half after spending pretty much the entire first half on the IL and clearly decided he wanted to go someplace where it didn’t matter if he pitched in the regular season or not.

Call me old fashioned, but I’ll take a guy like Madison Bumgarner who made 33 starts and pitched 217 innings during the 2014 regular season and then pitched an additional 53 innings in the playoffs as he put the team on his back to win its third World Series in five years.

Snell is now trying to justify his laziness by saying the playoffs is all that really matters which is rich coming from a guy who took the easy path and clearly has no shame for it.
