SF Giants fans have been waiting patiently for word on a new manager. It seems an announcement on who the new skipper will be may be coming soon according to one Bay Area sports insider.
Tim Kawakami of the San Francisco Standard took to social media and posted the following:
Sounds like there could be Giants managerial news pretty soon... maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon.

Bay Area sports insider teases SF Giants manager announcement
For those who cannot access the post, Kawakami writes: "Sounds like there could be Giants managerial news pretty soon... maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon."
That may not seem like very much, but coming from someone like Kawakami chances are he is basing this off of conversations he has had with people in the Giants organization. Kawakami is incredibly plugged into the Bay Area sports landscape so a post like this pretty safely signals that the Giants probably already have their choice for manager and may be waiting for a gap between the conclusion of the ALCS and the start of the World Series to make an announcement.
For a while, the prevailing wisdom has led many to believe that former Giants catcher Nick Hundley is the presumptive favorite to be the next manager. It has even felt somewhat inevitable that Hundley will get the job given that the other candidates who have reportedly interviewed would not make a ton of sense as the next manager.
However, a bit of a bombshell broke today as Andrew Baggarly reported in The Athletic that University of Tennessee head coach Tony Vitello appears to be the favored choice of the Giants.
He has been with Tennessee since 2018 and has a record of 341-131. He does not have any coaching experience in the big leagues though so it will be interesting to see how his style of coaching would translate to the big leagues.
After the Bob Melvin hire did not pan out as expected even though he brought a wealth of managerial experience to the table, it makes sense to bring in a younger first-time manager who is hungry, energetic, and has more to prove.
Hundley seemed to make sense as someone who was cut from the same cloth as Stephen Vogt, a first-time manager who was a former catcher for the Giants. But maybe Hundley did not want to be a manager and deal with the scrutiny and travel that comes with the job. The article in The Athletic says that Hundley is choosing to stay in his role with the Texas Rangers so maybe it was more of a family decision.
If an announcement is indeed made soon, Vitello now seems like the most likely candidate for the job. We will see if that ends up being the case, but all indications point in that direction.
