The SF Giants had four prospects make Baseball America's preseason top-100 prospect list, led by Bryce Eldridge, Josuar Gonzalez, Bo Davidson, and Jhonny Level. With a strong season in 2026, Baseball America identified young hurler Argenis Cayama as a prospect who could find himself on that list next year.

The offseason has been relatively uneventful for the Giants, which could point to them treating the 2026 season as a gap year. Nevertheless, baseball season is almost here, with spring training set to get underway in less than four weeks.

In the meantime, prospect outlets have been publishing their top-100 prospect lists. In recent years, this has been an uninspiring exercise for Giants fans. However, in a preview to that list, Baseball America views the farm system as showing a night-and-day improvement over last year. If you are eager for Giants prospect content, I would highly encourage that you give it a listen.

Some of that improvement has been due to unexpected developments. Josh Norris of Baseball America views Cayama as a prospect who popped up last summer. In addition to this, he mentions Luis De La Torre as someone who showed improvement by adding velocity, and Keyner Martinez who tweaked his mechanics during a bullpen that paid dividends.

All three pitching prospects finished last year with the San Jose Giants, and could return to that affiliate to start next season. If that turns out to be true, San Jose should be a fun club to follow again in 2026.

Cayama earned a $147,500 signing bonus out of Venezuela during the 2024 international free agency cycle. Yoendry Sanchez and Jhonny Level headlined that class for the Giants, but that might not be the only key players they signed.

In 2024, Cayama missed some time due to injury but pitched to a 2.59 ERA across 24.1 innings during the Dominican Summer League. He moved up to the Arizona Complex League (ACL) last summer, where he anchored a pitching staff that led the league with a 3.48 ERA.

The 19-year-old pitcher tallied a 2.25 ERA with 55 strikeouts and 18 walks in 48 frames in the ACL. Once that season concluded, he moved up to San Jose, along with Level, Martinez, and De La Torre.

Baseball America highlights Cayama's secondaries as a reason why he could move up in the rankings by next offseason. He throws a low-80's slider with a mid-80's changeup, both of which registered whiff rates above 45 percent in 2025.

Cayama also throws a mid-90's fastball with a couple of different looks. In particular, his sinker excels at keeping the ball on the ground, as he posted ground ball rates above 60 percent last year. The righty pitcher has a starter's arsenal and has shown good enough control to stick in that role.
