A requiem for the polarizing SF Giants City Connect uniforms

Should the SF Giants have traded Matt Duffy? With the fate of the universe on the line would you rather have 2010 Tim Lincecum or 2014 Madison Bumgarner? Did you like the Giants' City Connect jerseys?

These are just some of the questions that could lead to all-out brawls in Bay Area sports bars because of how divisive they can be.

2024 was the last season that the Giants wore their City Connect uniforms. From the beginning they inspired debate due to their unique design, fog gradient, and weird "G." Some fans hated them the whole time while they grew on others.

One thing is for sure, the Giants were successful wearing them. The Giants went 30-16 while wearing them which is not bad considering three of the four years they wore them were characterized by abject mediocrity.

Remembering the best moments for the SF Giants in their City Connect uniforms

When something ceases to exist, it is customary that we remember it at its best. Thus, it seems only fitting that we have a requiem for the polarizing City Connect uniforms and remember some of the best moments the Giants had while wearing them.

Brandon Crawford's walk-off home run

In August of 2022, Brandon Crawford delivered an indelible Giants memory by sending everyone home happy in the bottom of the 9th inning against the Arizona Diamondbacks. At the time it was the fourth walk-off homer of his career and gave the Giants a little hope in their race for the Wild Card. Unfortunately they came up short.

Blake Sabol's walk-off home run

In what is the highlight of Blake Sabol's career thus far, he hit a walk-off homer against the St. Louis Cardinals in 2023. Down to their last out and strike, Sabol was able to put a good swing on a hanging breaking ball out over the middle of the playe and took it over the wall in center field. There is nothing quite like being down one run going into the bottom of the 9th and delivering a two-run homer to win the game.

Alex Cobb's almost no-hitter

History almost occurred in a City Connect unfirom when starting pitcher Alex Cobb almost threw a no-hitter in 2023. He was absolutely dealing and recorded 26 outs before allowing his first hit. That game was really Cobb's last hurrah as a Giant before he got injured and then never appeared for the Giants in 2024 before being traded. He is now with the Detroit Tigers.

No matter what you think about the uniforms, some cool Giants moments occurred while the players were wearing them. Rest in peace creamsicle City Connect uniforms. May you be dug out of a basement in thirty years only for a young ten-year-old Giants fan to exclaim, 'What is that?'
