A pair of SF Giants prospects sweep Northwest League Player of the Week honors, August 24-30

The Eugene Emeralds had quite a few standout performances last week. Cam Maldonado and Hunter Dryden led the way, as the SF Giants prospects swept last week’s Northwest Player of the Week honors.

The Emeralds are gearing up for a championship run after securing a first-half title. They have not slowed down much since then, as they sit in second place with a 33-26 record in the second half. The Vancouver Canadians lead the way with a 34-26 record.

Overall, Eugene has a 75-50 record, which leads the league by a comfortable margin. The current roster looks quite a bit different to the one from only two months ago due to promotions and trades.

Jacob Bresnahan, Yunior Marte, Jean Carlos Sío, and Lisbel Diaz have moved up the minor league ladder. In fact, Marte made his major league debut for the Giants over the weekend.

Jhonny Level, Kaeden Kent, Hayden Jatczak, Isaiah Barkett, Cam Maldonado, and Damian Bravo have joined Eugene’s roster in recent months. Kent had a notable introduction to Emeralds fans after being activated from the injured list.

Hunter Dryden and Cam Maldonado led the way for SF Giants prospects last month

Last week, the Emeralds faced off against the Everett AquaSox and split the six-game series. On the pitching side, Hunter Dryden anchored the rotation. He completed six innings, allowing one earned run with seven strikeouts and one walk in an 8-4 win over the AquaSox.

The right-handed hurler has a 4.37 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, 9.6 K/9, and a 2.24 SO/W rate in 103 frames for the Emeralds this season.

On the other hand, Cam Maldonado has been of the best home run hitters in the Giants’ farm system. His 21 total home runs is third behind Lisbel Diaz and Bo Davidson, both of whom have 26 home runs.

Maldonado added three home runs against the AquaSox, and it all came in the same game. He had a three-homer night in a 12-10 loss. Kaeden Kent added two home runs as well while falling a triple shy of the cycle.

Since being promoted to Eugene in early August, Maldonado has hit seven home runs in 17 games. Overall, he has an .875 OPS with 21 home runs and 77 RBI in 412 plate appearances across three affiliates.
