5 rising SF Giants minor leaguers who could make MLB debut by end of the season

The SF Giants just made a flurry of minor league promotions after the All-Star Break and with the team very likely to sell ahead of the August 3 trade deadline there is a good chance that we will see some young players get promoted in the final months of the season.

That will at least give fans a chance to get familiar with some guys who could be a big part of the team in the next few years so let’s dive into five players who could make their big league debut by the end of the season.

5 young SF Giants who could be promoted

Bo Davidson

The Giants just promoted young outfielder Bo Davidson to Triple-A and he wasted no time showing that he belongs by recording five hits in his first ten at-bats including his first hit which was absolutely smoked.

Davidson hit .277/.340/.521 with 19 home runs and 53 runs batted in for Double-A Richmond. He could get his shot if the Giants trade away Heliot Ramos, Jung Hoo Lee, or Harrison Bader which could open more room in the outfield.

Nate Furman

If the Giants do end up trading Luis Arraez, that could open the door for utility infielder Nate Furman to be called up. He’s hitting .281/.370/.399 on the season in Triple-A and the Giants have to feel good about getting him in the Alex Cobb trade.

Matt Wilkinson

One of the few saving graces of this season could be getting to see Matt “Tugboat” Wilkinson, the portly left-handed pitcher acquired in the Patrick Bailey trade, make his big league debut. 

He has a 3.93 ERA in five starts for the Sacramento River Cats so if the Giants trade away Robbie Ray, Tyler Mahle, and maybe even Adrian Houser that will create plenty of room for the Tugboat in the rotation.

Parks Harber

Acquired in the Camilo Doval trade last year, Parks Harber has done nothing but hit in the minors. He just got called up to Triple-A and on the season he’s hitting .284/.373/.508 with 12 homers and 49 runs batted in. It’s not clear what position he’d play but it would be fun to see him get some big league at-bats.

Trent Harris

The Giants’ bullpen has not been great but if they choose to trade some pending free agent arms away that could open the door for Trent Harris who has a 4.15 ERA on the season with 35 strikeouts and 17 walks in 30 and 1/3 innings pitched.

Bad seasons at least create opportunities for young players so maybe a few of these guys will get their feet wet at the big league level by the end of the year.
