The 2024 MLB Gold Glove finalists were announced on Tuesday. The SF Giants were well represented with Matt Chapman being nominated at third base, Patrick Bailey at catcher, and Mike Yastrzemski in right field.

3 SF Giants players nominated for Gold Glove

Chapman is certainly no stranger to this position as he has already taken home 4 Gold Gloves at third base and even has a Platinum Glove which goes to the best defensive player in that player's respective league.

Giants beat writer Alex Pavlovic considers Chapman the favorite to win the NL Gold Glove for third basemen. Chapman had a fielding percentage of .963 in 2024 as he made 15 errors in 1,338 innings played at third.

Those numbers are worse than some of his other years defensively, but when you look at advanced stats like defensive runs saved or outs above average no one was better than Chapman. He also made insane plays like the one to end the game against the New York Mets earlier in the season which probably could have earned him a Gold Glove just on the strength of that ridiculous play alone.

Catcher Patrick Bailey was nominated for a Gold Glove for the second time. He was nominated last year as well but lost to Gabriel Moreno of the Diamondbacks. As our own Jeff Young noted on X, Bailey led all big-league catchers in Defensive Runs Saved and Catching Defense Added and also graded out as one of the best framers in all of baseball. He would definitely be deserving of his first Gold Glove which could be the first of many.

Then there is Mike Yastrzemski who was also nominated for his second Gold Glove. Advanced stats had him as one of the best defensive right fielders in baseball and based on our eyes we know that he can make great plays like robbing Mookie Betts of a hit or gunning a guy down at home plate. Yastrzemski would be another deserving winner.

The Giants have not had a Gold Glove winner since Brandon Crawford in 2021. It sure would be nice for all three of these guys to take home some hardware as they are key parts of the team and made huge contributions with their defense in 2024.
