The SF Giants are currently limping their way into the trade deadline. While they were seen as almost certain buyers just a week ago, now it seems like they could be sellers. These three players may be facing their last stand ahead of the deadline.

There are a number of areas the Giants could improve upon. Starting pitching is an obvious weakness, but it is not the only need the Giants could address. No matter what the Giants choose to do, these three players could not be Giants for much longer.

3 SF Giants facing their last stand as trade deadline approaches

1. Justin Verlander

The struggles of Justin Verlander have been well-documented. He has an ugly record of 0-8 with a 4.99 ERA on the season. It just looks like he does not have it anymore which is why the Giants may very well be in the market for a starting pitcher.

Perhaps the Giants would include Verlander in some sort of trade for a pitcher so they could offload him without having to release him or cut him. It is tough to see what team would want him, but with him being a free agent after the season the Giants should try to see what they can get for him.

2. Mike Yastrzemski

The longest-tenured Giant is right fielder Mike Yastrzemski. He has been a reliable and solid player for a long time, but right field is definitely a position the Giants could look to upgrade. There are sluggers out there like Kyle Stowers who could add a lot of the lineup, so Yastrzemski could be on his way out the door if the Giants are able to land a legitimate upgrade.

3. Dom Smith

With Rafael Devers likely to start playing first base for the Giants soon, that puts Dom Smith in a tough spot. He and Wilmer Flores have been sharing time at first base recently, but if Devers is getting reps there as well that means he is going to see less playing time.

The Giants may just decide to designate him for assignment, but they could try to trade him to a team in need of some help at first base. While his bat has cooled off after a hot start with the Giants, he has proven that he is an above-average defender at first base which is valuable.

The Giants have a lot of things to figure out ahead of the July 31st trade deadline, but these three players must be feeling a little uneasy as their future with the team feels a little bit uncertain.
