The SF Giants need to get a new manager, but once that matter is taken care of they need to improve their roster. If they try to improve the roster through trade, they must hold onto these three prospects.

We know the Giants have struggled to land big free agents in the past which is why they may be better served making trades to improve the roster. There are already some teams out there that would make sense as trade partners given their situation and players they have who could boost San Francisco in key areas.

But if the Giants do try to pursue the trade route, they must be cautious. It is easy to get overzealous in the pursuit of winning and trade away your future in the process. President of baseball operations Buster Posey and the front office are going to have to be smart as they try to improve the roster which means hanging onto these three prospects.

3 prospects SF Giants definitely shouldn't trade this offseason

Bryce Eldridge

This one seems obvious, but the Giants need to hang onto Eldridge. He got a brief taste of the big leagues and while his overall numbers were not awe-inspiring, the fact that he hit the ball so hard was a great sign. Plus, he was playing injured and required wrist surgery so it stands to reason he could be even better in 2026 if he is unencumbered by that issue.

There is a chance he could be the future face of the franchise so the Giants cannot trade him this offseason.

Josuar Gonzalez

The Giants have a young prospect in Josuar Gonzalez who could be very good someday. He is just a teenager, but the Giants signed him out of the Dominican Republic last offseason.

He is a shortstop, but by the time he is ready for the big leagues it is possible that the defense of Willy Adames will have declined which may force him to move to a different position. In that case, Gonzalez could end up being the team’s future shortstop.

He has a very long way to go and needs to develop further, but he has a lot of promise right now which is why the Giants should be patient and hold onto him.

Dakota Jordan

There is a lot of intriguing talent on San Francisco’s A-ball affiliate in San Jose. One name to keep an eye on is Dakota Jordan. The outfielder had a very solid campaign with San Jose in 2025, slashing .311/.377/.497 with 14 home runs and 82 runs driven in.

The Giants do not have a ton of exciting outfield prospects so they would be wise to keep Jordan and see if he can blossom into a future big leaguer.

It is always tempting to trade away prospects, but Posey and Co. need to think about the future which is why they should keep these three prospects this offseason.
