The SF Giants seemingly always invite a veteran player or two to spring training who has had success earlier in their career but is maybe a bit washed up and looking to just make a roster. While the Giants don't really have any players like that this season, let's take a look at three guys who were with the team in Scottsdale but did not make much of an impact on the big league roster.

3 forgotten SF Giants who were given a shot in spring training

Jimmy Rollins

Remember how Jimmy Rollins was a Giant? Don't worry if you don't, we all wish we could have the year 2017 wiped from our collective memories.

But it happened. It's right there on the internet for all to see. Rollins signed with the Giants on a minor league contract at the very end of his career as he tried to stay in the game.

Rollins did not do much at the plate in spring training and was subsequently released. He never played in the big leagues again although he still had a remarkable career.

If he makes it in the Hall of Fame it seems doubtful he will go in as a Giant, but we'll always have March of 2017 as a fun bit of trivia for the sicko Giants fans out there.

Aaron Hill

Infielder Aaron Hill always seemed like he'd end up a Giant someday. He was a solid player with the Arizona Diamondbacks but fell off towards the end of his career and the Giants took a chance on him with a minor league deal.

He made the Opening Day roster after spring training but did not do much of anything in the regular season. He slashed .132/.250/.235 with one homer and seven runs driven in across 34 games before being let go. He never played in the big leagues again.

Jake Lamb

This one is a bit more recent so it is a little easier to remember, but the Giants picked up Jake Lamb last season and extended him an invite to spring training. He seemed like a long shot to make the roster but he actually did alright in the Cactus League.

Still, he did not make the team and spent the year in Triple-A with the Sacramento River Cats. Lamb decided to retire following the 2025 season and accepted a player development role with the Arizona Diamondbacks which is the team he had the greatest success with.

There are not any random veterans in camp this time around, but we can always look back fondly on these short and not very memorable stints in orange and black for these players who are remembered much more for their contributions with other teams.
