The World Baseball Classic is in full swing and while there are plenty of SF Giants players taking part in the event, there are also some beloved former Giants coaches who are in the mix as well.
While there is always a fear that players can get hurt in the event, the hope is that maybe the WBC can help give the Giants a boost ahead of the regular season.
Let's take a look at three guys who will be plenty familiar to Giants fans.
3 familiar SF Giants faces will be coaching in the World Baseball Classic
Dusty Baker
The Giants had Dusty Baker at the helm of the team from 1993 to 2002. As manager, he led the Giants to the playoffs a number of times and led them to a World Series berth in 2002. He is back with the Giants organization in a front office role.
He is going to be managing Team Nicaragua at the World Baseball Classic at the request of ex-Giant and Nicaragua native Marvin Benard who used to be Baker's leadoff hitter in San Francisco.
Baker may have retired from managing a few years ago, but it will be cool to see him in a dugout again.
Dave Righetti
The legendary Giants pitching coach who was there for all three championship runs last decade, Dave Righetti, will serve as an assistant pitching coach for Team Italy.
He was San Francisco's pitching coach from 2000 to 2017. That sort of continuity with a pitching coach across multiple regimes is just unheard of but speaks to the value he brought over those years.
He had a hand in the development of so many key arms during that time and now he can lend that experience to Team Italy.
Ron Wotus
Joining Righetti on Team Italy is Ron Wotus as bench coach. Giants fans will remember that Wotus served for years in various roles on the Giants coaching staff. He was primarily the team's bench coach but also served as the third base coach at the end of his tenure.
He is still involved in the Giants organization and can be seen hitting grounders to players sometimes. Having him and Ron Washington around will be great for the infielders on the team.
The World Baseball Classic is a cool event so it will be neat to see some beloved former Giants coaches in the dugout during the event.
