Stock Down

Mike Morse

I know San Francisco Giants fans are cheering for Mike Morse, but things have not gone his way early as he tries to make this roster. As a designated hitter in the first game of spring, he was 0-2 at the plate with 2 strikeouts. He started and played first in game two, but was 0-1 with a walk.

Again, it’s early and it’s only four plate appearances, but if Morse wants to make this lineup he needs to start producing soon. It doesn’t help that Marrero, also battling for a back-up spot at first base, has out shined him early.

Matt Reynolds

It’s really early for pitchers as most guys have only gotten one outing under their belt, but that first outing for Reynolds was not so good. On Sunday he gave up 3 runs on 4 hits in 0.2 innings pitched. He did manage to strikeout a batter, but it’s definitely not the outing he was hoping for.

Reynolds has been around for a little while and proven to be an effective major league reliever in the past. I am hoping that he can come in and be a powerful arm out of the bullpen, but this was certainly a step back in a bullpen competition that will be highly competitive.

Reynolds needs to be flawless in his next couple of outings to get back in the race.
