Former SF Giants outfielder Michael Conforto has reportedly agreed to a deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He will join Blake Snell as a turncoat who is chasing a World Series ring the easy way in Los Angeles.

This reporting comes via Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.

The deal is reportedly for one year on a $17 million contract. That is slightly less than the two-year $36 million contract he played on with the Giants from 2023 to 2024.

He was supremely average as a Giant. In 2023 he slashed .239/.334/.384 with 15 home runs and 58 RBI in 125 games and 406 at-bats. In 2024 he slashed .237/.309/.450 with 20 home runs and 66 RBI in 130 games and 438 at-bats.

He was a below-average defensive outfielder which is why the Giants used him more as a designated hitter in 2024. It is unclear whether the Dodgers are going to use him more as a corner outfielder or as a DH, but Feinsand also reports that Los Angeles signing Conforto does not mean they are out on Teoscar Hernandez.

Conforto was not able to recapture the success he had earlier in his career with the New York Mets as a member of the Giants. Conforto was an All-Star back in 2017 with New York, slashing .279/.384/.555 with 27 home runs and 68 RBI. He also hit 33 homers in 2019.

Conforto suffered a shoulder injury during free agency prior to the 2022 season which required surgery and resulted in him not getting a contract. Perhaps it is that injury that limited his production with San Francisco.

We will have to see what Conforto is able to do for Los Angeles. It would certainly irk Giants fans if Conforto is much better than he was with San Francisco. They seem to be betting that he will improve on his 2024 numbers which were a slight improvement over his 2023 numbers. Their thinking may be that one more year removed from his injury will garner better results. Or maybe they are just trying to troll the Giants.

No matter what, both he and Snell are certainly going to hear it from Giants fans at Oracle Park next season. Giants fans do not take too kindly to turncoats, so we will have to see if the boos make them regret taking the easy path and joining the Evil Empire down south.
