Who had the best pitch among SF Giants pitchers in 2026? There are a few ways to evaluate this, but Logan Webb, Keaton Winn, and Carson Seymour led the way in the various models.
Baseball Savant uses Run Value as a way to measure individual pitches. Is it an effective approach? Jacob Misiorowski of the Milwaukee Brewers and Cam Schlittler of the New York Yankees led baseball with the best pitch, both of which were four-seam fastballs.
Not surprisingly, Misiorowski and Schlittler have strong cases to take home the NL and AL Cy Young Awards, respectively, in 2026. So, Run Value seems to be a good measure for evaluating specific pitches.
Run Value is an outcome-based metric. Its measurement is based on what happens when a pitcher throws a specific pitch.
SF Giants leader in Fangraphs' Stuff+ model is a surprise
For the Giants, Logan Webb's sinker produced 12 Run Value, which led the club by a comfortable margin. Landen Roupp's changeup and curveball each posted six Run Value, along with Trevor McDonald's sinker.
Another way to look at this is Run Value per 100 pitches. It is the same measurement, but breaks it down to measure a pitch's effeciency. If a pitcher has a quality pitch and throws it a lot, then it will likely generate a high Run Value. On the other hand, Run Value per 100 pitches looks at a combination of effectiveness and efficiency.
Keaton Winn's sinker led the way in that category, with 4.3 Run Value per 100 pitches. This means that if he threw his sinker 300 times, he would likely have surpassed Webb's sinker in Run Value.
Lastly, Fangraphs displays Suff+ rankings to evaluate individual pitches. Unlike Run Value, Stuff+ looks at the physical characteristics, such as velocity, spin rate, and release point. These traits combine to affect pitch shape.
Fangraphs also has a model to measure location and pitch sequencing. However, Stuff+ focuses only on the physical traits. In this category, Carson Seymour's slider posted a 120 Stuff+. Fangraphs also indicates that he threw a curveball that generated a 134 Stuff+, but that was likely a one-off glitch.
The slider plays down due to Seymour's inability to locate it effectively in the zone. That said, it grades out as an above-average offering in terms of pitch shape.
The Giants moved Seymour to the bullpen in 2026. He posted a 4.55 ERA in 25 outings. While he has not been particularly effective during his two seasons in the majors, he has a good foundation, led by his slider.
