If you checked out the SF Giants game on Friday on the radio, you may have heard some different voices than the usual crew. The Giants are on the road in New York, so F. P. Santangelo and Joe Ritzo are filling in for the call.

Who are the SF Giants radio play-by-play announcers during the Yankees series?

You will usually hear Jon Miller, Dave Flemming, Duane Kuiper, and Mike Krukow cycle through the radio broadcasts each game. However, the 10-game road trip on the East Coast tends to change the logistics of who takes the call. This is especially true for Kuiper and Krukow, both of whom have limited traveling in recent years.

In particular, Krukow does not typically travel with the team on the road. When he is on the call for road games, it is usually from the studio at Oracle Park.

So, road trips tend to allow different voices to join the airwaves. Javier López and Hunter Pence have been added to the rotation in recent years. From time to time, Joe Ritzo and F. P. Santangelo do the play-by-play call on the radio side.

They both bring something good and different to the table. Ritzo does the TV broadcasts for the San Jose Giants, so he has a good knowledge of the younger players before they even debut with the club.

Ritzo has been calling games in San Jose since 2007, and began lending his voice to the Giants' play-by-play call during Cactus League games in 2017. He called his first Giants regular season game in 2019.

On the other hand, Santangelo is well known from his playing days, most notably with the Montreal Expos. He also made stops with the Giants (1999) and Los Angeles Dodgers (2000) before finishing his career with the Oakland A's in 2001.

Santangelo was hired as the color analyst for the Washington Nationals in 2011, and held that post for several years before returning to the Bay Area. He has been mixing in on the radio side since 2022.

One thing I like about the former utility player is the experience he adds from his playing days on the broadcasts. He gives a player's perspective for things that happen on the field that might fly under the radar. Ritzo and Santangelo should continue to lend their voices on the radio side several more times on this road trip.
