The SF Giants landed one of the top international signings in middle infielder Josuar De Jesus González out of the Dominican Republic. Where does he land in terms of the team's top prospects?

Where does the top international signing for the SF Giants land on the team's top prospect list?

I should preface this in saying that it is a very tough task to do any kind of ranking before a player ever plays a game in pro ball. The only information available are scouting reports, which can be sparse and incomplete, as well as snapshots of these players during live games.

If all goes according to plan, González will begin his pro career in the Dominican Summer League (DSL) later this year. He could graduate to the Arizona Rookie League in 2027 and begin full-season ball in the following season if not sooner. That is the typical plan for the top international signings but development plans are rarely a one-size-fits-all approach.

That said, Baseball America put together the organizational rankings for some of the top players signed, including González, in this year's cycle:

Roki Sasaki was considered the top prospect in this year's signing class despite being a late entrant. He has immediately become the top prospect in the Los Angeles Dodgers farm system as well as one of the top prospects in baseball.

Sasaki does have considerable experience in the pros already. He pitched for four seasons with the Chiba Lotte Marines of the NPB. On the other hand, González is the next-highest ranking at No. 5 in the Giants prospect rankings.

The rankings have been updated recently but they are also behind a paywall. Baseball America does really good work, so subcribe to them if you want to get more detailed information about both amateur and pro prospects.

You can probably guess who some of the prospects in front of González are in the Giants system. Bryce Eldridge and Carson Whisenhunt are often considered the two top prospects in the organization at the moment. There is a possibility that at least one, if not both, graduate at some point in 2025.

González could move up pretty quickly to become the team's top prospect by then. If he thrives in the DSL, there is a possibility that he will move up the top prospect rankings in baseball as well. For now, it is more about the young middle infielder getting acquainted to pro ball.
