Where does SF Giants top pick rank in Baseball America's updated top-100 prospect list

Following the MLB draft, Baseball America updated its top-100 prospect list to account for new entrants into the conversation. SF Giants top pick Jackson Flora begins his pro career as the No. 62 prospect in baseball.

The three picks ahead of Flora rank quite a bit higher. Vahn Lackey was the No. 3 pick by the Minnesota Twins, and he comes in at No. 26. Both Roch Cholowsky and Grady Emerson are ahead him in the ranking.

The updated ranking gives the Giants five prospects within the top-100 list. Josuar Gonzalez leads the way at No. 17. Luis Hernández, Jhonny Level, and Bo Davidson are also in the mix. Of course, Bryce Eldridge is a notable absence, but this is only because he has graduated from prospect status.

This is about as strong of a farm system as the Giants have had in years. They will look to continue to bolster that area at the trade deadline.

Jackson Flora was the club's first pick to be signed following the draft. He agreed to an underslot deal , with the savings likely to be reallocated to Carson Bolemon and Kaden Waechter. The remaining selections in the first 10 rounds have been signed at this point.

SF Giants top pick now viewed as one of the top pitching prospects in baseball

The next step for many of them will be to begin their pro career. Teams are typically conservative with pitchers in their draft year. Oftentimes, they have already pitched a full workload by the time they have been drafted, and teams are hesitant to try to ramp them back up. That said, some of the top picks do get into a couple of games before the end of the year.

Flora might be one of the players to get into game action soon. They hope that he could move quickly, and that could start as soon as this summer.

The right-handed pitcher is coming off a successful season at UC Santa Barbara. He posted a 1.06 ERA, 0.85 WHIP, 11.7 K/9, and a 4.16 SO/W rate in 102 college innings.

On the mound, Flora throws from a three-quarters arm slot. He has a tall, 6-foot-5 frame, so he gets natural extension from his release point. He throws a mid 90's fastball with a pair of sliders. He also throws a changeup while filling up the zone with his pitch mix.
