Veteran SF Giants outfielder Mike Yastrzemski blasted an opposite field, three-run homer on Sunday to give the Giants the lead. In a postgame interview, Yastrzemski shared that his daughter, Quinley, asked him to hit a home run.

Yastrzemski then joked that his daughter actually asked for a triple, home run, and a splash hit. I suppose one of three is not bad, right?

That home run came at a key point in the game. The Giants entered the bottom of the fourth inning with a 2-0 deficit against the Seattle Mariners. They scratched one across the board with an RBI single off the bat of Heliot Ramos.

Yastrzemski stepped to the plate with Ramos and Jung Hoo Lee on base. He clubbed the first pitch he saw over the left field fence to give the Giants a 4-2 lead. Mariners starter Bryan Woo cruised through the first three innings, so that rally provided a much-needed confidence boost for the Giants.

They held the lead until the ninth inning when Randy Arozarena lined a double down the left field line off of Camilo Doval to plate Victor Robles and tie the game up. The location of the pitch was not all that bad, but Doval's slider hung a bit too much for Arozarena.

The game did not stay tied for long. Yastrzemski led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a walk. Luis Matos reached base on a fielder's choice. He then advanced to second base by tagging up on an incredible play from Victor Robles in right field. Robles did hurt himself on the plate, and we hope for a speedy recovery.

Wilmer Flores came to the plate and lined a single to right field to walk it off and give the Giants a sweep against the Mariners.

Yastrzemski could be entering his final year with the Giants. He is off to a nice start, posting a .942 OPS with one home run and four RBI in 31 plate appearances this season. He has generally tallied high walk rates, with last season being an exception at 8.0 percent. This year, he has already worked seven walks.

The left-handed bat helped lift the Giants to victory on Sunday, and he had the right motivation to do so. The Giants hope there is plenty more of that in the tank.
