The roster landscaping continued this week as a large number of minor leaguers hit the open market. Trenton Brooks, Spencer Howard, and Raymond Burgos were among the 18 SF Giants minor leaguers to elect free agency, per the team's transaction log.

This group also includes a former top prospect such as Seth Corry and some depth options in the upper minors such as Chase Pinder, Yusniel Díaz, Drew Strotman, and Tommy Romero.

It also marked the period in which players from the 2018 draft class reached six years of service time, making them eligible to elect free agency. This includes Blake Rivera, Matt Frisbee, and Clay Helvey.

Luis Toribio also reached free agency. He was signed during the 2017 international free agent cycle for $300,000. During that cycle, the Giants were not allowed to hand out signing bonuses of more than $300,000 after exceeding their spending pool when they signed Lucius Fox for $6 million in 2015.

Toribio had a strong pro debut in the Dominican Summer League in 2018 where he posted a .903 OPS with 10 home runs and 39 RBI in 274 plate appearances. The lefty bat reached as high as Double-A before reaching free agency.

On the other hand, Trenton Brooks, Spencer Howard, and Raymond Burgos all played for San Francisco in 2024. Though, if you forgot about Burgos, we would let that one slide.

The lefty pitcher made one appearance with the Giants where he allowed one earned run. He was designated for assignment but cleared waivers and returned to Sacramento to finish out the year.

Brooks struggled during his time with the club as he tallied three hits with four walks and six strikeouts in 29 plate appearances. While the lefty bat never displayed much power in the minors, he did show a pretty good understanding of the strike zone.

Lastly, Howard nearly made the club out of camp. He recorded a 5.63 ERA in 23 innings with the Giants before being shipped to the Cleveland Guardians.

Howard made two appearances with the Guardians before being placed on waivers. He cleared and became a free agent but not for long. The righty pitcher returned to the Giants on a minors pact to finish out the year with the Sacramento River Cats.

There is a chance that a couple of the free agents return, but all 18 are now free to sign with a new team.
