As the 2025 season comes to a close, the SF Giants celebrate a quarter century at 24 Willie Mays Plaza. If you still have a bitter taste in your mouth from the second half of the season, let me offer you a palate cleanse.
Top-6 moments from the 2025 season as voted on by SF Giants fans
Like all things in life, being a baseball fan has its peaks and valleys. That is the beauty of the game and why it is not understood by everyone to be an invigorating spectator sport; being a die-hard baseball fan is not for everyone. For those who are there for opening day to Game 162, you understand the importance of the game.
Because of the longevity, it's a reflection of the times, a reflection of the country, and its people, we can call on it, and it will always answer back to tell us who we are. In the same way frozen ground relies on spring's sun to break the frost of brutal winters, avid fans rely on baseball. I want you to give yourself a pat on the back for sticking by the SF Giants this year.
So what better way to close out the year than reliving the sweetest parts of SF Giants baseball in 2025? We asked fans what their favorite moments of the season were.
Let's start from the beginning, and with an homage to "Forever Giant" Wilmer Flores. Oh Wilmer where do we even begin?
1. Wilmer Flores' go-ahead home run on Opening Day
On Opening Day, Flores hit a go-ahead home run in the top of the ninth in Cincinnati, sparking a comeback to win the game, and for a brief moment, he had more RBI than Aaron Judge, Kyle Schwarber, and Shohei Ohtani. We loved saying "if no one got me, I know Wilmer got me," and you almost always had our backs. With Flores now a free agent, it is unlikely to see him return in a Giants uniform, but we will always be rooting for Flores, and we will never forgive the umpires for that blown check swing call in the 2021 NLDS. We all know you would have gone deep on the next pitch.
2. Jung Hoo Lee's memorable series at Yankee Stadium
Another iconic moment of the 2025 season was when Jung Hoo Lee became the rightful owner of Yankee Stadium in his debut there. His first home run in 2025 came off Marcus Stroman in the pouring rain. Lee, wearing a ski mask, stole the show that series against the Yankees. Two days later, he recorded his first major league multi-home run game as the Giants took two out of three games in the Bronx.
3. Mike Yastrzemski's walk-off home run
For many fans, Splash Hit #106 was the highlight of the season, and it came from fan favorite Mike Yastrzemski. On April 9, Yastrzemski hit a walk-off splash hit against Emilio Pagán to complete a comeback win against the Reds. A mighty statement from a player who many were sad to see go at the deadline. Yastrzemski went on to find success with the Kansas City Royals before landing a multi-year deal with the Atlanta Braves.
4. Heliot Ramos' walk-off "home run"
On April 27, Heliot Ramos did probably the funniest thing of the season when he scored a "little league walk-off home run" against the Rangers. Following a comedy of errors, Ramos was able to touch them all on a ball that did not leave the infield.
5. Patrick Bailey's inside-the-park home run
Who could forget Patrick Bailey's inside-the-park walk-off home run? Down 3-1 against the Phillies at home, Bailey hit a ball about as far as one can hit it without clearing the fence. The 414-foot swing of the bat cleared the bases and ended the game.
6. The Rafael Devers trade
While for some the best moment wasn't even during the game, but instead the moment Robert Murray of FanSided tweeted that Rafael Devers had been traded to the SF Giants. A turning point moment for the organization, and a significant moment for Buster Posey as president of baseball operations. Posey was essentially telling fans "I'm here to win, and I know what I'm doing." Devers would go on to have a 30-homer season, hitting 20 home runs in 90 games with the Giants, putting him on pace for 30+ home runs.
It was Willy Adames who really broke the 30-homer curse. While Devers did it first by technicality, it was Adames who had all 30 with the Giants. It really felt like a curse had been broken when Adames did it in the last game of the season. It took all 162 games, but Adames managed to lift 30 despite a rough start.
Pitchers and catchers report in six weeks, and spring training starts on February 20. Logan Webb will be pitching for Team USA in the WBC. So, while the 2025 season is now in the rearview mirror, let's remember some of the highlights from a year that ended on a sour note.
