New SF Giants manager Tony Vitello has to get up to speed before his first season as a MLB manager, but it seems he is up to the task as he plans to travel far and wide to meet some of the key players on the team before the season.

It has been reported that Vitello has already met with Giants shortstop Willy Adames in the Dominican Republic and hopes to meet with Rafael Devers there too. Then, he plans to travel to South Korea to meet with Jung Hoo Lee.

It is a great sign to see that Vitello is being so proactive in reaching out to Giants players. These reports come after Vitello said he was brushing up on his Spanish with assistant coach Jayce Tingler in anticipation of the Dominican Republic trip.

Vitello seems to be jumping head first into this new endeavor which is a great sign ahead of his first season with the team. He has seemingly been more than willing to reach out and connect with people in the organization which is essential since he is coming straight from the college ranks.

He has been willing to surround himself with experienced voices like Ron Washington who was hired as an infield coach and will be the beneficiary of having both Bruce Bochy and Dusty Baker at his disposal as special advisors to the front office.

Energy and enthusiasm were probably the two adjectives thrown around the most when the Giants made the unconventional hire and so far he has delivered both traits in abundance. His willingness to go and meet players where they are, literally, is refreshing even though he could have just waited until spring training to meet everyone.

Establishing those connections prior to the team meeting up in Scottsdale should smooth things over and make those first days of the Cactus League a little less awkward and stressful for everyone.

Vitello has proven he is not afraid to joke around either and has a lot of charisma so he seems uniquely qualified to win players over quickly just given his personality and the way he carries himself.

Getting veterans on board with an unconventional hire is absolutely essential and may take time with some players, but Vitello is taking the necessary steps to try and win over the clubhouse as quickly as possible.
