There is a new longest-tenured player on SF Giants after trade deadline fire sale

It is fitting he is the new longest-tenured Giant.

The SF Giants moved on from several long-tenured players at the trade deadline. Both Tyler Rogers and Mike Yastrzemski had been with the team since 2019, which means the new longest-tenured Giant is starting pitcher Logan Webb.

Yastrzemski debuted with the Giants in May of 2019 while Webb debuted on August 17th of that season and Rogers debuted ten days later.

SF Giants have new longest-tenured player in Logan Webb

It is sad to see players like Yastrzemski and Rogers go since they have been synonymous with Giants baseball for so long. Both had incredible moments with the team and were seemingly well-liked by their teammates so any time you lose players like that it stings even if the moves felt somewhat necessary due to the team's atrocious play in the second half.

It is tough for president of baseball operations Buster Posey to make these moves since he played with both of those guys. He also played with LaMonte Wade Jr. who was traded earlier this season as well.

Posey is learning the hard part about the job which is having to have that hard conversation with someone you consider a friend. Yet, that is what you have to do as the boss sometimes.

The last player on San Francisco's roster who Posey was a teammate with is none other than Webb. The two played together on the 2019 and 2021 teams and Posey got to see him blossom before his very eyes into an ace during that magical 2021 season that saw the team win 107 games.

It is fitting that Webb now carries the mantle for longest-tenured Giant because he is a leader on the team. He is the staff ace and he is not afraid to speak up when things need to be said.

He is under contract through 2028 so chances are he is going to be a Giant for at least a few more years barring something unforeseen.

The next longest-tenured Giant on the team is Wilmer Flores who debuted with the team in 2020. It seems fairly likely that this will be Wilmer's final year with the team so a lot of familiar faces are on their way out of the door.

One familiar face who should be around for a while is Webb, and the Giants are hoping their new longest-tenured player can help the club for a long time to come.
