Stanford grad headlines group of undrafted free agents signed by SF Giants

The SF Giants are working to sign their remaining draft picks, but they have brought in some new faces as well. According to the team's transaction log, Stanford graduate Toran O'Harran headlines a group of five undrafted free agents signed by the club in this year's cycle.

While the draft has been reduced to 20 rounds in recent years, teams will still bring in some undrafted players to round out their rosters. This, along with the draft, is usually followed by a wave of players being released by the organization. That usually happens following the conclusion of the Arizona Complex League (ACL).

O'Harran has been assigned to the ACL Giants, but that is mostly a procedural move. The ACL season ends this week.

In addition to O'Harran, the Giants also signed catcher Scott Gell, infielder Brodey Acres, outfielder Carter Rust, and pitcher Kory Williams. The Giants did not draft a catcher in this year's draft, so it is not surprising to see that one of their undrafted players is a backstop.

SF Giants added pitching prospect who attended the same high school as Logan Webb

O'Harran originally went to Rocklin High School, which is the same high school as Logan Webb, before he attended Stanford University. The right-handed pitcher posted a 4.05 ERA with 34 strikeouts and 20 walks in 40 innings this year. He flashes a mid 90's fastball with a low 80's secondary offering.

That was not the only pitcher they signed. They also added Williams, who pitched at Goldey-Beacom College. He had a 3.64 ERA with 81 strikeouts and 25 walks in 81.2 innings. Williams flashes a mid 90's fastball with a quality breaking ball.

Acres, Rust, and Gell are all position players. Acres posted a 1.160 OPS with 10 home runs and 48 RBI in 221 plate appearances at Walsh University. This includes more walks (30) than strikeouts (23).

Rust had a .975 OPS with 9 home runs and 51 RBI in 232 plate appearances at West Chester University this season. He also swiped 33 steals in 39 chances.

Lastly, Gell attended Stony Brook University. He registered an .824 OPS with three home runs and 35 RBI in 156 plate appearances in 2026.
