SF Giants welcome back power bat in flurry of roster moves

The SF Giants made a pair of roster moves ahead of Friday's series opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers. According to the team's transaction log, Victor Bericoto was activated from the injured list, while Duncan Davitt was recalled from Triple-A.

To make roon, both Logan Webb and Nate Furman were placed on the injured list. Webb is dealing with a finger blister, while Furman sustained an oblique strain.

The Giants had been considering shutting Webb down for the past week. This marks his second stint on the injured list this season, and one that will end his year. For the past few years, Webb has been one of the most durable pitchers in baseball, but injuries are part of the game as well.

The veteran hurler will hope for better results next year. He pitched to a 4.31 ERA, 3.45 FIP, 1.17 WHIP, 7.5 K/9, and a 3.27 SO/W rate in 27 starts.

Furman also lands on the injured list. He struggled to a .368 OPS in 39 plate appearances. Furman did not hit much, but he showed off a good approach at the plate.

Power bat could fill a role for the SF Giants next season

On the other hand, Victor Bericoto and Duncan Davitt have been added to the roster. Bericoto has been sidelined since the end of August with a knee bruise.

The Giants hope to get the right-handed-hitting outfielder some at-bats before the end of the year. He has a .664 OPS with four home runs and 12 RBI in 88 plate appearances this season. Bericoto has displayed some intriguing power, but his plate discipline will need to improve. He has only worked one walk this season.

Given how left-handed-heavy the Giants ' outfield leans, there could be a role for someone like Bericoto, or anyone from the right side. The main group of outfielders, including Jung Hoo Lee and Drew Gilbert, needs to be platooned, so there are potential at-bats available in 2027 for anyone who can fill that role.

Duncan Davitt is relatively new to the Giants. He was recently claimed off waivers from the Atlanta Braves. He has not had much success in the upper minors, but he has a decent fastball and throws from a funky arm slot. Plus, Davitt has a cool job in the offseason.
