The hype for SF Giants top prospect Bryce Eldridge has been undeniable. That hype is only going to continue after the first baseman hit an absolute bomb of a home run in his first spring training game against the Texas Rangers.

The video of the home run can be watched here. Eldridge hit a 450-foot homer to straight away center field on an 0-2 pitch that came off his bat at a sizzling 110.4 miles per hour. That is what we call a big one.

Eldridge did not start the game for the Giants. He pinch hit for designated hitter LaMonte Wade Jr. later in the game and got two at-bats. The 20-year-old struck out looking in his first at-bat, but he came back in his second at-bat and delivered a swing that is sure to heighten calls that he make the team out of spring training.

Despite this, manager Bob Melvin made it clear earlier this year that he does not envision Eldridge breaking camp with the team. The young player still needs to develop a bit when it comes to his defense at first base because that position is still relatively new for him.

It is probably prudent to take things slow with the 6-foot-7 power bat. He does carry the burden of having such high expectations placed upon him as a first round pick in the MLB Draft who tore his way through the minor-leagues last season. The biggest risk the Giants could take is rushing him up too soon and damaging his confidence.

Yet, Eldridge clearly carries himself with a ton of confidence and has already talked about how he wants to make the major league team at some point this season. That is the exact thing you want to hear from a top prospect with as much potential as Eldridge.

If he has a strong spring training and looks really good in the minor leagues to begin the season, then the demand to call him up to the big leagues will only get louder and louder.

He is off to a great start after just one game, so it will be interesting to see if he can get hot and make a great first impression in spring training.
