SF Giants top prospect has impressive day in Arizona Fall League
His solid play will do nothing to slow down the hype train.
The SF Giants may not be in the MLB playoffs, but their top prospect Bryce Eldridge is currently playing in the Arizona Fall League. He recently had a very strong 2-hit performance which bodes well going forward.
Taken 16th overall by the Giants in the 2023 MLB Draft, the 6-foot-7 left-handed slugger from Virginia is the top prospect in the Giants organization. A lot of weight rests on his broad shoulders as he represents the most exciting offensive prospect the Giants have had in quite some time.
Top SF Giants prospect Bryce Eldridge off to good start in Arizona Fall League
It is important to remember that he will turn 20 years old on Sunday so he is still very young and very green. But it is undeniable how impressive it is that he breezed through the minor leagues and made it to Triple-A by the end of 2024. Across 4 levels in 2024 he slashed .292/.374/.516 with 23 home runs and 92 RBI.
It is easy to understand why fans are excited about Eldridge, and he has only added more fuel to that fire with his performance in the Arizona Fall League. In the game he played in on October 17th, he recorded two hits including a home run and a double. He also had an impressive play defensively at first base. So far in the Fall League, Eldridge has 7 hits in 29 at-bats.
He did also have 3 strikeouts in the game on the 17th so it was not all perfect. But he displayed that raw power that gets Giants fans excited about his potential. His double was particularly impressive as he took the ball to the opposite field and just missed hitting a home run as it bounced off the fence. Sure, it is Arizona and the ball does fly but it was still an impressive swing.
Eldridge has tons of promise, but it remains unclear what his progression will look like with Buster Posey in charge now. One could argue that Posey will not feel pressure to rush Eldridge up, but depending on how the season goes the Giants may need to call Eldridge up to give their offense a boost especially if he is tearing it up in Triple-A.
No matter what, it is good to see him having success in the Arizona Fall League. Let's hope he continues to improve so he can come into camp next year with a lot of confidence.
