There weren't a ton of "fun" games for the SF Giants in 2026. We at Around the Foghorn are sifting through the muck of the 2026 season to try to find a few specks of gold and one very fun game against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field back in June is my No. 3 moment of the year for San Francisco.
There were the kind of games that San Francisco's front office dreamed of when it signed Matt Chapman, Willy Adames, and traded for Rafael Devers. Adames had two home runs, Chapman had two home runs with eight runs batted in, and Casey Schmitt had two home runs on the team's way to an 18-3 romping. Devers had a couple of hits including an RBI and Bryce Eldridge had a couple knocks too.
In total the Giants had 19 hits, seven of which were home runs. To make i even sweeter, a lot of the damage came against Edward Cabrera who the Giants were linked to as a possible trade target during the offseason. This was during a stretch when San Francisco's offense looked truly dangerous. The 18-run game against the Cubs came right after the Giants scored 12 runs against the Milwaukee Brewers to close out the previous series.
When they had pretty much all their guys healthy, they showed that they can really put up some damage and the nice thing is that pretty much all of that lineup will be back next season except for Arraez assuming no one gets traded which is far from a guarantee.
Giants' offense was explosive at times in 2026 which bodes well for 2027
That explosive performance against the Cubs is why it's not completely crazy to think the Giants can be somewhat competitive next season. It's a little crazy, but if they genuinely make an effort to improve both the starting rotation and the bullpen they could have a decent team on paper assuming the offense stays healthy.
On a personal note, I unfortunately was not at the 18-3 romp even though I live on the North Side of Chicago. I strongly considered going but there was rain in the forecast and I figured it might get rained out and I would be waiting around for hours at Wrigley Field with nothing to do so I listened to the game on the radio at home instead.
It was still a fun listen, but it would have been next-level fun had I actually been there. At least I got to see the Giants score nine runs in the 11th inning during the 2025 season at Wrigley Field so maybe I used up all my good luck on that one.
For Giants fans accustomed to close games and Torture, as Duane Kuiper so aptly dubbed it, we need 18-3 blowouts every now and then just to lower the blood pressure a bit. That romp over the Cubs was a blast and an optimist can even point to that game as a reason for hope going into 2027 even if that may be fool's gold.
