After not providing much in the way of power through his young big league career, SF Giants second baseman Christian Koss blasted a grand slam in Tuesday's game. As a reward, he got a "random" drug test the very next day.

Koss talked about this on KNBR on Wednesday morning prior to San Francisco's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The hosts asked him if he was going to be in the lineup and Koss said he had not checked because he, "Got in early, had to do a random drug test, and then called you guys."

It seems like MLB heard Koss hit one out of the ballpark and got a little suspicious. They must not think that Koss and all 186 pounds of him is capable of hitting one over the wall without a little extra help. In all seriousness though, it is a funny coincidence that the rookie had to get tested a day after such a great moment in his young career.

The grand slam Koss hit on Tuesday night was the first home run of his big league career. The 27-year-old has been forced to start a lot of games at second base recently with both Tyler Fitzgerald and Casey Schmitt on the IL, although both are showing signs of returning.

It will be interesting to see how the Giants handle things at second base once Fitzgerald returns, but Koss has done a nice job filling in. He is currently slashing .241/.302/.293 with the one homer and eight runs driven in. He has also done a nice job defensively as he has yet to make an error in 142 and 2/3 innings played at second base this season.

Fitzgerald will almost certainly be the starting second baseman again once he is healthy, but Koss has shown that he adds enough value to be a solid depth piece for the team. He can fill in at second base, shortstop, and third base whenever he is needed and we are seeing that he has more pop in his bat than his wiry frame would suggest.

If they tested him for PED's after his first homer, we can already assume they are going to check his bat for cork if he blasts another one. Tread carefully, Christian, the powers that be can't stand you hitting dingers.
