SF Giants righty pitching prospect earns Arizona Fall League All-Star nod
The SF Giants sent a solid group of prospects to the Arizona Fall League (AFL) headlined by Bryce Eldridge. However, it was Cale Lansville on the pitching side who turned out to be the lone Giants representative to make the AFL All-Star team.

In fairness, there is a good chance that Eldridge would have joined Lansville on the All-Star team. However, the Giants decided to shut him down after 46 plate appearances in the AFL. At that point, the Giants were satisfied with his workload.
Plus, it was a full year as is for the power-hitting prospect as he tallied 519 plate appearances during the regular season. At times, AFL assignments are for players who missed time during the regular season and are looking to make up for lost repetitions. That was not the case for Eldridge.
On the other hand, it is a minor surprise that Charlie Szykowny did not make the All-Star team. The third base prospect has posted a .706 OPS with two home runs and six RBI in 55 plate appearances. He did get off to a hot start in the AFL but he has cooled off over the past week.
Cale Lansville will be the Giants' lone representative. The Giants selected him in the 14th round of the 2023 draft out of San Jacinto College. He had a quality first season in pro ball as he registered a 4.36 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, 8.4 K/9, and a 3.14 SO/W rate in 74.1 frames for the San Jose Giants. Despite being a college arm, Lansville just completed his age-21 season, so he was still a bit on the younger side for the California League.
In the AFL, the pitching prospect has posted a 2.92 ERA with 16 strikeouts and five walks in 12.1 innings for the Scottsdale Scorpions. Luckily, I was able to see his best outing of the fall in person where he recorded six strikeouts while allowing one unearned run in three innings against the Mesa Solar Sox in late October.
On the mound, the right-handed hurler features a four-pitch mix that includes a low-to-mid 90's fastball, curveball, slider, and changeup. He is able to locate all four of his pitches in the strike zone, but he has generally shown a good feel for his slider and relies on it as a swing-and-miss pitch.
