SF Giants reportedly add hard-throwing reliever out of Frontier League on minors deal
Tread Athletics is not too dissimilar to Driveline in that it is a training facility that focuses on improving pitcher performance. This includes adding more velocity or spin, as well as changing up arm slots or pitch mixes.
When a player comes into spring training with a different look, it is usually a result of working at one of these training facilities. These training programs do a great job of promoting their athletes by holding pro days. These often lead to players signing with major league teams.
That is what happened with Mitch White. This is also not the same Mitch White who pitched briefly for the Giants in 2024. That Mitch White spent the 2025 season throwing for the SSG Landers of the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO).
This Mitch White pitched for the University of Cincinnati during his final college season in 2023. When his name was not called during the 2023 draft, he joined the Schaumburg Boomers of the Frontier League.
In two seasons with the Boomers, White has pitched to a 3.56 ERA with 85 strikeouts and 45 walks in 70 appearances. He does generate healthy strikeout numbers, but the walk totals are a tad high as well.
On the mound, the right-handed pitcher flashes a mid 90's fastball with a mid 80's curveball and a splitter that reaches as high as 91 MPH. The fastball has some riding action up in the zone. White has a good feel for his curveball, and can drop it into the strike zone as his go-to secondary. The splitter has some promise as well.
The signing marks White's first stint in affiliated ball. The Giants have had success through this channel in recent years. Spencer Bivens has pitched to a 3.68 ERA across 129.1 major league innings. Before that, he was throwing in indepedent ball, including a stint in the Frontier League in 2021.
Dayson Croes is another interesting player that they added through that channel. Last year, he was getting ready to start his third season in the American Association, but signed a contract with the Giants. Croes had a meteoric climb up the minor league ladder, which culminated with a brief stint in Triple-A.
