SF Giants reliever Tyler Rogers and his wife Jennifer welcomed a new baby boy into the world on January 8th. The child's name is Nolan Ryan Rogers which is an awesome baseball name and somewhat ironic.
Clearly, Tyler must have grown up idolizing Nolan Ryan, one of the best pitchers in the history of baseball. It is a bit ironic considering Ryan had one of the most electric fastballs ever while Rogers is a submariner whose fastball tops out at around 84 miles per hour.
Nonetheless, it is very cool to see Rogers name his child after his hero. Nolan Ryan Rogers is the couple's second child and will be a baby brother to Jack who was born several years ago. You can view the Instagram post announcing the birth on Tyler Rogers' Instagram.
SF Giants reliever Tyler Rogers gives son perfect baseball name
Of course, Rogers' own family is unique considering he has an identical twin, Taylor Rogers, who is also on the Giants. The twins have been pitching together in San Francisco since 2023 and have put up some very solid numbers. Last season Taylor had an ERA of 2.40 in 60 innings pitched and Tyler had a 2.82 ERA in 70 and 1/3 innings pitched.
Both have proven to be very effective relievers in the past and both figure to be large parts of the bullpen in 2025. Tyler Rogers in particular has established himself as a reliable set-up man who can act as a bridge to the 9th inning. Manager Bob Melvin has seemingly not trusted Taylor Rogers as much in high leverage spots, but his solid numbers in 2024 suggest he could still be a valuable middle reliever for the team in 2025.
The one downside is that Taylor Rogers is set to make a lot of money in 2025. The Giants were thinking he would be an elite late-inning reliever for them when they gave him that contract so the fact he has not lived up to that is a bit disappointing.
In the case of Tyler Rogers, he recently settled for a contract for the 2025 season so it appears we will get at least one more season of the Rogers twins together considering 2025 is the last year of Taylor's deal.
It is great to see the Rogers family expand and very cool to see that Tyler and Jennifer named their son after a great pitcher. We at Around the Foghorn congratulate the Rogers family and wish them success both on and off the field in 2025 and beyond.
