The SF Giants promoted a pair of pitchers in Dylan Hecht and Cam Pferrer to High-A. To make room on the roster, a trio of pitchers, including Cody Tucker, Tommy Kane, and Daniel Blair were released according to the team's transaction log.
SF Giants release a trio of minor league pitchers from High-A roster
Both Pferrer and Hecht are relatively new to the organization. The Giants signed Pferrer toward the end of last season. He had been pitching in the Frontier League before latching on with the Giants.
So far, he has a 4.30 ERA with 20 strikeouts and four walks across 14.2 frames as a pro, all of which has come with the San Jose Giants.
The Giants signed Hecht at the end of March. He has had a winding career as a pro after completing just 6.2 innings with Sonoma State University in 2017. Since then, he has made a few appearances in independent ball. Before joining the Giants organization, his last stop was in the Frontier League in 2021.
The Giants found Spencer Bivens in independent ball, so that might be a market they continue to scout. If one or two turn into major leaguers, then it is a success.
On a more sour note, Cody Tucker, Tommy Kane, and Daniel Blair are now free agents after being released. Kane was a 19th-round pick in 2023, whereas Blair and Kane joined the organization as undrafted free agents.
Kane reached as high as High-A, posting a 5.42 ERA across three minor league seasons. He did tally 92 strikeouts in 81.1 career frames, so the lefty pitcher did have some swing-and-miss stuff.
Similar to Kane, Tucker and Blair joined the organization in 2023. Tucker registered a 5.17 ERA in three seasons as a pro while working out of the bullpen, often along with Kane. This includes 10 earned runs in 6.2 innings with the Eugene Emeralds this season.
Blair did see some time as a starter, opening the game in nine of his 69 career appearances. He registered a 4.75 ERA during his time with the Giants organization. He allowed six earned runs in seven frames with Eugene this season.
