The SF Giants completed a minor signing earlier in the offseason. Power-hitting outfield prospect Victor Bericoto has reunited with the Giants on a minor league deal.
SF Giants re-sign power hitting outfield prospect to minor league deal
Bericoto earned a $25,000 signing bonus out of Venezuela during the 2018 international signing period. He was eligible to become a free agent this offseason, but he was not publicly among the group of Giants minor leaguers to hit the open market.
That is usually an indicator that a player has been re-signed to a minor league contract, even if it does not appear in their transaction log. Giants senior director of player development Kyle Haines joined the Splash Territory podcast and confirmed that Bericoto had re-signed with the organization.
That minor league deal might include a camp invite. Haines answered a question in the context of which outfield prospects could help the club this season. Bericoto, along with Bo Davidson, were some of the outfielders mentioned by Haines.
The Giants have not upgraded the outfield group yet. If spring training started today, Luis Matos, Jerar Encarnación, Grant McCray, and Drew Gilbert would be among the players competing for playing time in right field. All four players are on the 40-man roster, so they would seemingly have an edge in the competition. Encarnación and Matos are out of minor league options.
Bericoto and Davidson are further down on that depth chart. However, none of the 40-man options have run with their past opportunities, so there is a chance that a non-roster player such as Bericoto could make some noise.
Across six minor league seasons, the right-handed bat has slashed .276/.350/.442 with a 10.0 percent walk rate, 22.5 percent strikeout rate, and .166 ISO. This includes a solid 2025 campaign where he put up a .791 OPS with 15 home runs and 65 RBI in 464 plate appearances split between three levels, most notably in Double-A.
Bericoto is playing winter ball this season for Leones del Caracas. He has posted an .851 OPS with two home runs and 15 RBI in 117 plate appearances in the Venezuelan Winter League.
In the field, Bericoto has experience at first base and all three outfield positions. However, he saw the bulk of his time in right field in 2025. The same has been true for his stint in winter ball.
