The SF Giants (2-1) will not go undefeated in the Cactus League as they dropped a game against the Los Angeles Angels in a split squad matchup on Monday. Veteran hurler Robbie Ray will take the hill for the Giants against the A's (1-1).

When the Giants acquired Ray, they knew he would not be able to make an impact right away as he recovered from Tommy John surgery. He is approaching the two-year mark from a major elbow procedure, which is right around the time pitchers get back into their pre-surgery form.

The lefty pitcher made seven starts for the Giants in 2024. He recorded a 4.70 ERA with 43 strikeouts and 16 walks in 30.2 innings. He was able to record high strikeout totals but his control was not sharp, which is to be expected given the procedure he underwent. Plus, Ray's four-seam fastball sat in the mid 90's.

Who is pitching for the SF Giants?

Joey Lucchesi and Tristan Beck are set to follow Ray. Both will be making their 2025 Cactus League debuts. Lucceshi joined the Giants as a minor league free agent and has a good chance of making the club as the second lefty in the bullpen if he throws well. Kai-Wei Teng and Cole Waites are also among the pitchers scheduled to throw.

Who are the SF Giants facing?

The Giants will be facing off against JP Sears. Sears tallied a 4.38 ERA in 32 starts for the A's in 2024. The southpaw pitcher does not overwhelm with velocity but he has a five-pitch mix that he can command in the zone.
