The SF Giants (52-46) dropped a clunker on Friday night against the Toronto Blue Jays (56-41). Logan Webb will take the hill for them today to try and get them back in the win column.
SF Giants probable pitchers & starting lineup vs. Los Angeles Dodgers, July 12
The Giants managed to get 11 hits in Friday's 4-0 loss, but were unable to get a run across home plate. They had plenty of opportunities, but were held hitless in nine at-bats with runners in scoring position. The team's struggles with runners in scoring position continue.
Webb is coming off of a strong first half, where he posted a 2.94 ERA in 20 starts. He pitched a scoreless frame in the All-Star game. In a way, he redeemed himself from a rough outing he had in his first All-Star game last summer.
The veteran hurler has shown a spike in strikeout numbers this season. This is due to a change in pitch mix, where he is now favoring his sweeper more than his changeup. Both pitches have seen an uptick in whiff rate this season. The hitter will usually tell how a pitcher is throwing, and hitters have struggled even to make contact against Webb's secondary offerings.
Who is hot for the SF Giants?
The Giants had three multi-hit games on Friday. Patrick Bailey was included in that group and he finished the day with a .572 OPS on the season. His bat looks to be slowly turning a corner after a tough first half.
Who are the SF Giants facing?
The Giants are facing off against southpaw pitcher Eric Lauer. Lauer has a 2.78 ERA in 14 outings, including eight starts. The lefty pitcher's arsenal includes a low 90's fastball with a cutter, curveball, and changeup.
